Behind the Cup
Mont Kenya is surrounded by plateaus in the Aberdare zone near Kisii, Nyanza, Bungoma and of course, Mont Kilimanjaro. In 1952, the area covered by coffee plantations was 3000 acres shared by 12000 growers. Today, it is estimated that 700,000 growers are sharing 170,000 acres!
The Kenya AA is cultivated at altitudes higher than 6600 feet above sea water. It is considered a gourmet coffee. The AA is actually a classification of coffee within the Kenya system. Grades are assigned based on the size of the bean. Beans with a size of 17 or 18 (17/64 or 18/64 of an inch) are assigned the grade AA, generally the largest bean.

Out of an order of 4 different coffees, I found this one to have the most traditional coffee taste, meaning I didn’t detect any spiciness, chocolate, citrus, etc. But it was delicious, full bodied, very aromatic. I liked this one a lot!

Pretty strong and authentic so quite good and like coffee should but in the office it wasn’t favoured by those who are used to bland coffee-shop styles… haha.
